Mouth: Grainy, full-bodied, slightly viscose. Aftertaste is crisp and mildly sour, but leaves my mouth feeling dry.
Opinion: Probably the only organic malt liquor I’ll ever try. It’s much more palatable than your average corn-based swill such as Olde English 800 or Colt 45, but at the end of the day it’s still malt liquor. Drink it cold.
Food: Boiled hot dogs, frozen pizza, ramen noodles, Hot Rods, store brand potato chips, Chef Boyardee, cheap smokes.
This flavoured malt liquor from Molson Coors Canada is a bright, caramel-tinged golden colour and yields a small, loose white cap when poured that only lasts for a few seconds. Mad Jack Premium Apple Lager smells almost entirely of sweet apple juice from concentrate and bears little resemblance to anything even approaching any type of lager I’ve ever had.
The taste of Mad Jack Premium Apple Cider does have a subtle malt character, but it’s quickly buried under an overly sweet, drinking box-like apple flavour. Malic acid enhances the medium-bodied and lightly carbonated beverage’s moderately sour finish and the aftertaste brings forth a chemical tone that seems to dry out your tongue, despite it being coated by a syrupy film.
Bud Light Platinum from Labatt Brewing Company (Anheuser-Busch InBev) pours a clear, light straw yellow with a foamy white head that burns off within a few seconds, leaving a small collar and thin film behind. This American adjunct lager smells like corn syrup and grasses, with a sharp metallic note and a very mild floral one as well as a whiff of alcohol.
The taste of Bud Light Platinum is very, very sweet with frozen corn and apple juice flavours. There is a perfume character behind that, but any subtleties are drowned by the sweetness. The beer is syrupy for a moment on the tongue, but is thoroughly watery from start to finish. There is a mildly bitter metallic note in the aftertaste, but the corn taste lingers beyond that and is somewhat cloying.
