He will be bringing beers from some of Europe’s oldest and most respected breweries including Erdinger Weissbräu and Affligem Brouweij. I had the chance to chat with Mr. McClelland about the brands he will be sampling at the show and the import business in general. I’ll also briefly review the beers in his company’s Ontario retail portfolio.
It’s easy to see why the number one-selling beer in Australia is called “The Drinking Beer”. Victoria Bitter from Carlton and United Breweries features a crisp, dry flavour with a strong accent of Pride of Ringwood hops.
Though Victoria Bitter is very carbonated, the thick, creamy white head produced when pouring dissipates within a couple of minutes. The deep honey-coloured lager produces a grainy aroma with a hint of sweet corn. The taste is consistent from start to finish and makes for an exceptionally smooth-drinking beer that feels refreshing on the palate.
