Spark House Red Ale from Lake of Bays Brewing in Baysville, Ontario pours a rusty amber colour with a large and creamy off-white head that leaves sparse spots of lace as it settles into a rocky film. This American amber ale carries thick aromas of roasted chocolate malts, raisin, black cherry and mineral water.
The taste of Spark House Red Ale shares many of the same qualities. Its roasted character is joined by dark fruit and chocolate flavours that transitions to a light and lemony tone in the finish. This medium-bodied, mildly carbonated ale has a bready, slightly syrupy mouthfeel and moderate bitterness. A pronounced mineral tone is found in the aftertaste.
This red lager from the Hop City Brewing Company in Brampton, Ontario pours an amber-copper colour with lots of visible carbonation and a medium-sized, foamy tan coloured head that leaves some spotty lacing and settles as a collared film. Barking Squirrel Lager smells of toasted caramel malts with a floral hop quality. Fresh grains, alcohol, raisin and tree nuts also come through.
The taste of Barking Squirrel Lager is crisp and mostly dry, with a subtle nutty quality, a bread-like tone and a hint of chocolate. The finish is solidly bitter with a slight wood or scotch note. The mouthfeel is creamy with a yeast-like quality on the tongue. There is a nice pop of carbonation even at the bottom of the glass and the aftertaste is dry with a raisin-like fruity tone to it.
This hemp-based beer from the Cool Beer Brewing Company Incorporated in Toronto, Ontario has a very nice, rusty, dark amber color. It pours with a thick, frothy white head that leaves moderate lace and settles as a collar. Millennium Buzz Beer has a very sweet, malty aroma with overripe or rotting fruit tones. It’s very grape-like, almost like a wine and develops a spicy, brown sugar sweetness after warming.
Millennium Buzz Beer has a real boozy overtone to the taste, like grain alcohol or cheap vodka. This is backed by a smoky oak and sweet malted corn flavour. It’s subdued overall and not very appealing. The mouthfeel is thin and watery with almost no body whatsoever. The beer leaves a yeasty, syrupy feeling on the back of the tongue.
