This light flavoured wheat beer brewed in Toronto, Ontario by the Amsterdam Brewing Company pours a rusty, toasted amber colour with a small, fleeting head that stays around as a thin collar. KLB Raspberry Wheat Ale does indeed smell like raspberry, with toasted malt and honey tones. It’s fairly mild, but always smells fresh.
KLB Raspberry Wheat Ale tastes of toasted wheat at first, then a solid raspberry flavour that doesn’t taste too unnatural. The beer is light-bodied with a medium carbonation, giving it a creamy mouthfeel. There is an earthiness in the finish, along with a brewed tea tone. The aftertaste is very dry and tart.
The packaging of KLB Raspberry Wheat Ale depicts a farmer’s wheat field in yellow and light brown. A slogan on the side of the can reads: “The Beer that Made Peterborough Famous”. Indeed, so much was thought of the former Kawartha Lakes Brewing Company that the Amsterdam Brewing Company acquired them in 2003 when KLB went bankrupt.
KLB Raspberry Wheat Ale is an easy-drinking wheat beer that I always seem to enjoy. The raspberry flavour adds to the taste of the beer rather than ruining it. The beer pairs well with salads and raw veggies and can be found at most LCBO locations, select The Beer Store outlets and at the Amsterdam Brewery in Toronto seven days a week.
