This rich amber-coloured pale ale that originated in Leeds at a brewery founded in 1822 tastes anything but light. Tetley’s Smooth Flow is brewed by Carlsberg UK with three simple ingredients and its quality is evident from the moment you pour it.
Tetley’s Smooth Flow uses a pressurized insert to create a thick, creamy beige head that lingers until the end of your glass. The ale produces a savoury aroma of hops and syrup. Its woody, malty, roasted nut flavour has hints of black tea and gives way to a mildly bitter, crisp and slightly dry finish.
The can is an attractive royal blue and is highlighted by a cream-coloured wave and the Smooth Flow branding is also printed using a wavy font. The logo is printed in a red, early 20th century-style typeface and surrounded by a rugby ball. The Tetley’s brand has been a sponsor of the sport at all levels for some time.
Tetley’s Smooth Flow has quickly become a staple buy during trips to my local The Beer Store location. Its surprisingly rich taste goes very well with light snacks like crackers, raw veggies like baby carrots and cucumber and it goes especially well with potato chips.
